Kaiser Permanente

Jamille referenced the the advice that her daughter’s pediatrician at  Kaiser Permanante gave her about healthy nutrition for young children. She also mentioned Fred Meyers and Safeway as she described her organic shopping habits.

Audience and Agenda:

Jamille is a single mother who works two jobs to support herself and her daughter. Her daughter’s father is actively involved in their lives and helps out with both finances and babysitting. Jamille does not accept government aid other than minor medical assistance for her child.

Usefulness:

This interview was helpful because it offered commentary and opinions form the stand point of a stake holder within the arena of sustainable and organic agriculture. Jamille is not wealthy, but she insists on feeding her daughter strictly organic foods which can be complicated considering her limited budget and the often high price of organic produce. Jamille’s point of view was important to consider, because there are many parents in similar situations who have high standards to what they are willing to feed their children, but the high cost of certified organic foods represents a major obstacle in providing a healthy diet. Jamille Simpson neglected to mention what if anything she was doing on an indevidual basis to reduce organic food prices or grow produce for her self. 5 Ways to Buy Organic on a Budget (drgreene.com Jan,13,2009) addresses many issues facing parents with limited funds who are intent on feeding their children organic foods, and would be a great resource for Jamille.
